Top 4 Protein Shake Recipes

With long hours at work these days sometimes a full meal isn’t always in the cards.  So instead of complaining about less than idea situations you have to learn to make do.  I love protein shakes as a way to fill in the gaps in one’s diet.  I recommend a high protein diet to our member regardless of their goals so getting enough protein always seems to be an issue.  The protein shake can be the bridge between an average day and a great day from an eating perspective.

Myself for example.  One of my goals is to eat 275g of protein per day.  Some days this is an easy task to accomplish (eggs for breakfast, chicken for lunch, leftovers for a snack, steak for dinner).  Other days, like let’s just say a Monday after spending a weekend in Key West with one of your “Joey’s” from Baltimore (Joey = bro; it was time for a new term), it’s not so easy.  You wake up too tired to cook breakfast at 5am and have a million things to do before you get home at 9pm, so how do you get in 275g of protein with only one or two planned solid meals.  While not always perfect, you have to supplement your protein consumption for that day.

"Hey Joey"

Here are my 4 favorite shakes to add in on any day.

1)  Almond Butter + Vanilla – This one I like at any time of the day.  I used to do peanut butter, but almond butter blows that out of the water.  Much better taste to it.  I usually do 2 scoops of vanilla protein,1 tablespoon of almond butter, 1 cup of whole milk, a few ice cubes and a pinch of stevia sweetener.  Blend and enjoy!

2)  Chocolate + Peanut Butter – Another great one if you are in the mood for a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup!  Same ingredients as the vanilla one, just change the protein to chocolate.  Great option for those that crave chocolate too!

3)  Strawberry – Just replace the almond butter from the first shake with a handful of fresh strawberries.  This is a great one for the summer when strawberry prices are at their best!

4)  Blueberry – Another summer classic this time with fresh blueberries instead of strawberries.

So there are my favorite protein shake combinations.  Sometimes I will get crazier and throw in extra ingredients like oatmeal, spinach, or a greens product, but for the most part this is what my shakes will look like when I have access to to a blender and a freezer!  So these delicious shakes will give you no excuse to not get in enough protein on any day.
